What should I wear?

All guests should be properly attired and are required to wear shirts and shoes. Shoes MUST be worn at all times. St. Nicholas Abbey Heritage Railway reserves the right to exclude guests who wear inappropriate clothing. Examples of inappropriate wear include: Clothing displaying offensive messages/language; Swimwear or clothing which exposes inappropriate portions of the body.

Can I buy a ticket on the door?

Yes, subject to availability.

If I am late and the train has already departed can I go on a later train?

Unfortunately we cannot facilitate this, and you will need to purchase a new ticket.

I’ve booked a ticket online but would now like to cancel my booking and have a refund, is this possible?

Unfortunately we cannot refund a ticket once it has been paid for except in the case of force majeure due to circumstances (i.e. extreme weather) beyond the control of SNAHR. 

I’ve booked a ticket online but would now like to change the date/time of my journey - how can I do this?

Unfortunately we cannot change the date and time of a ticket once it has been paid for.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

Tickets that are booked and paid for cannot be cancelled, altered or refunded except in the case of force majeure due to circumstances (i.e. extreme weather) beyond the control of SNAHR. 

Is it possible to volunteer at the railway?

Not as yet, but follow us on Facebook and sign up for our newsletter as we may be starting a volunteer programme in the future.

Do you have a turntable?

Yes! A totally unique feature of our railway is the turntable at the picturesque Cherry Tree Hill and we invite guests to help turn the turntable should they so desire!

Do you do special events at the railway?

Yes! we are able to accommodate corporate group parties/team building as well as special events such as birthday parties, please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

Can we get married at the railway?

Yes! It is possible to get married and incorporate a beautifully romantic steam train ride, please contact Camilla Warren for further information.

Can I organise a group tour or educational visit?

Yes, please contact us directly.

I would also like to visit St. Nicholas Abbey, how does this work?

We offer a combined ticket to both attractions which can be booked online.

Do you have a gift shop?

We have a gift shop selling a lovely selection of branded products as well as small gift items and mementos from your day. We also sell our rum and products such as jams/jellies/pepper sauce etc.

Is car parking easily available?

Yes we have a free car park at the train station.

Do you have a lost property department?

All lost property will be held at the station masters office.

I don’t wish to visit the St. Nicholas Abbey but would like to purchase rum, is this possible?

Yes, we have a gift shop at the railway where our rum will be on sale but please note personalised bottles can only be engraved at St Nicholas Abbey.

Is it possible to do the whole journey without disembarking from the train?

Yes.

Is it possible to walk the track?

No, in the interest of safety visitors must keep well away from all train tracks.

Can we take photos and videos on the train?

Yes. No drones are permitted.

Can we take food and drink on the train?

No food or drink is permitted on the train but we do have a cafe at the station for light refreshments, drinks and snacks.

Are there disabled toilets?

Yes.

Are there baby changing facilities?

Yes.

Can I take my buggy on the train and does it need to be folded?

A maximum of 2 of buggies can be taken onto the train carriage but priority must be given to wheelchair users.

How long should I allow for my visit?

A typical journey on the heritage railway will last around 45 minutes however we recommend you arrive in good time (at least 20 minutes prior to your departure time) and we have a cafe and gift shop on site to also enjoy. In total, you should about 90 minutes for your visit.

How soon should I arrive before my journey?

We recommend you arrive in good time and allow at least 20 minutes before the start time of your journey.

What is your policy on smoking?

We are strictly non smoking.

Are animals allowed on the train?

No, with the exception of assistant guide dogs.

What days are you open?

We are open 6 days a week Sunday to Friday. We are closed on Saturdays.
